Abstract

1391714 Furnace pouring apparatus STOPINC AG 30 July 1973 [8 Aug 1972] 36921/72 Heading F4B A downward-discharge vessel for molten material, e.g. casting ladles, comprises a refractory lining 11, a ring 12 mounted within the lining of refractory material and a bush 13 also of refractory material mounted in the ring and having a bore 14 for the discharge of the contents of the vessel, wherein the upper end surface of the bush is below the surface of the lining 11 and also of the ring and is covered and protected by overlying refractory material. As shown, the protection comprises a member 22 of refractory material which is applied as a last operation after the ring 12, bush 13 and valve plates 15, 17 and discharge nozzle 19 are positioned. The member 22 is formed from an annular ring 22<SP>1</SP> of plastic refractory material which is positioned on a lance 24 and pushed into position by deformation. In a modification the protective member 22 comprises a suitably shaped solid refractory part which is introduced into a frustoconical cavity at the ring block 12 by a lance. The bore of the member may be smaller than the bore of the bush to constitute a throttling member during the initial pouring operation but which is subsequently widened by attrition. In a further form, the ring block may be formed of an upper and lower part, the upper surface of bush being coincident with the joint line. The valve may be of slide gate type as shown having a recilinear, rotary or partrotary movement.
