Abstract
A phosphor suspension for coating the envelope of a low-pressure mercury vapour discharge lamp consists of 100 grs. of powdered phosphor having a particle size mainly in the range of 5-25 microns, 200 mls. of water and 12.5 mls. of an aqueous solution of ammonium polymethacrylate (Trade Name "Vulcastab"). The envelope is baked for approximately six minutes at a temperature of about 450 DEG to 500 DEG C., preferably initially at about 450 DEG C. and subsequently at 500 DEG C. with no intermediate cooling. Baking can be effected by introducing the envelope into an oven maintained at about 450 DEG C. and either raising the temperature to about 500 DEG C. or transferring the envelope to a region of the oven maintained at about 500 DEG C. A turret machine for coating a number of envelopes is described. Specification 917,832 is referred to.
