Abstract

656,805. Glass. WATT GLUHLAMPENUND ELEKTRIZITATS - AKT. - GES. Sept. 29, 1948, No. 25436. Convention date, March 2, 1942. [Class 56] [Also in Groups XI and XL(a) ] In the production of glass envelopes as in Specification 651,066, the edges of the portions before assembly and fusion are provided with a coating which has a fusion point below the softening point of the glass. The fusing of the coating proceeds whilst the parts to be joined are under the external atmospheric pressure. The coating may be applied by rotating the envelope parts about an inclined axis so that the edge dips into the coating material; alternatively, the envelope parts may be held in a rapidly rotating container for the coating material which rides up the sides of the container and contacts the envelope edges. Alkali polysilicates may be incorporated in the coating material to lower its fusion temperature. Specification 655,691 also is referred to.
