Abstract

617,802. Glass. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Sept. 27, 1946, No. 28916. Convention date, April 14, 1943. Drawings to Specification. [Class 56] Two glass parts, for example in an electric discharge tube or incandescent lamp, are sealed together through an intermediate layer of low melting-point glaze which is less than 100 microns thick. The surfaces of the glass parts are made substantially smooth, any irregularities being preferably less than half the thickness of the glaze layer. In a particular example the glaze layer has a thickness of about 10 microns and comprises 16 per cent B 2 O 3 , 80 per cent PbO and 4 per cent ZnO.
