Abstract
1339099 Tin and indium oxides PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 Aug 1972 [28 Aug 1971] 39729/72 Heading C1A [Also in Division H1] Glass in a low-pressure mercury vapour discharge lamp is coated internally with a transparent coating of a material which reduces attack and blackening of the glass and which has a resistance from end to end of between 5 and 200 kilo-ohms. The material may be tin oxide or indium oxide. In one example the envelope is sprayed with a mixture of tin chloride, ethyl alcohol and a small quantity of hydrofluoric acid whilst the envelope is at 600‹ C. to provide a coating of tin oxide with a resistance of 30-50 kilo-ohms. For a coating of indium oxide, the spraying solution may comprise indium chloride and a small quantity of tin chloride in butyl acetate.
