Abstract

1,140,613. Metal-vapour lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 10 Nov., 1966 [13 Nov., 1965], No. 50454/66. Heading H1D. An outer transparent envelope enclosing the discharge tube of a sodium-vapour lamp has a preferably internal coating layer of doped In 2 O 3 containing from 1À5 to 3À7 atom per cent of dopant relative to the quantity of In, which layer is permeable to sodium light but reflects IR radiation. The dopant may be Sn or F in amounts of 2À3 At. per cent of Sn or 2 At. per cent of F relative to the quantity of In. The thickness of the layer is between 0À2 and 0À5 Ám., preferred values being 0À31 and 0À46 Ám. at which permeability maxima to sodium light occur. The outer envelope is tubular and evacuated and has a terminal at each end. The discharge tube filling consists of sodium plus neon plus a slight addition of argon.
