Abstract
1,014,897. Discharge lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 31, 1964 [April 3, 1963], No. 13129/64. Heading H1D. A super-high-pressure mercury vapour discharge lamp having quartz walls 1 and solid electrodes 3, 4 spaced apart by a distance exceeding twice the tube inner diameter contains between 5 x 10<SP>-7</SP> and 5 x 10<SP>-5</SP> g. atoms of one of the halogens per c.c. This reduces cracking of the envelope. The lamp is loaded at more than 300 W. per cm.<SP>2</SP> of the inner surface, operates at a pressure in excess of 15 atmospheres, and contains a rare gas at 60 mm. pressure at room temperature. The halide may be introduced into the lamp as a sodium salt, e.g. the chloride, bromide, or iodide. The lamp may have a tungsten cathode 3 and tungsten anode 4 connected through molybdenum fusing strips 5 and 6 to the leads 7 and 8.
