Abstract
1,189,614. Discharge lamps. TOKYO SHIBAURA ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 20 March, 1968 [23 March, 1967], No. 13432/68. Heading H1D. A high-pressure discharge lamp filling comprises a starting rare gas, e.g. argon at 20 mm. mercury pressure, from 0À5-10 mgms/c.c. of mercury, from 1À2 10<SP>-7</SP> to 1À2 10<SP>-5</SP> gm-atoms/c.c. of at least one rare earth element, or its halide, selected from the group thulium, erbium and holmium, from 1À0 10<SP>-7</SP> to 4À10<SP>-6</SP> gm.-atoms/c.c. of thallium, and a halogen in a total quantity of more than 4À6 10<SP>-7</SP> gm-atoms/c.c. but less than the sum of one-third of the chemical equivalent of mercury, the chemical equivalent of the rare earth element and the chemical equivalent of thallium. The discharge tube is of quartz having an inside diameter of 16 mm., an arc length of 50 mm. and an inside volume of 12 c.c. A fluorescent layer including a rare earth element which emits red and absorbs ultra-violet, may be disposed on the inner wall of an outer bulb surrounding the discharge tube.
