Abstract

604,665. Glass manufacture. KODAK, Ltd. May 13, 1944, No. 9215. Convention date, April 17, 1943. Drawings to Specification. [Class 56] [Also in Group XX] A glass surface is prepared, before coating in vacuo with an optical interference layer (see Group XX), by preheating at a pressure less than .1 mm. mercury and at a temperature between 70‹ C. and the softening point of the glass, the vacuum being unbroken between the preheating and coating. A 500 w. incandescent lamp with envelope broken away may be arranged within the bell-jar &c. to act as the heating element, and the support for the glass lenses &c. may have its surface blackened, or, if transparent, may have a blackened surface arranged immediately beneath it. The preheating may be combined with the processes described in Specifications 604,666 and 604,742. Specification 604,741 also is referred to.
