[Class 56] [Also in Groups XV and III] A powder which can. be converted into a glaze by heating or evacuation or both, e.g. .boric 'acid, is applied to the interior of an electric discharge 'tube by heating a readily vaporizable binder in a container, and passing a stream of air through the vapour space, which is in communication with the interior of the tube, so that the vapour condenses on the internal surface of the tube to form a thin uniform layer of binder, the powder being subsequently introduced into the tube and distributed to form a layer which is anchored to the binder. The binder may be a solid, e.g. sulphur or "Halowax" (Registered Trade Mark), or a liquid having low surface tension and high viscosity, e.g. glycerol.
