Abstract
483,629. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Aug. 27, 1937, No. 23525. Convention date, June 16. [Class 39 (i)] A negative glow lamp adapted to be operated on alternating mains has two electrodes 8, 9, slightly spaced from each other, which form approximate halves of a conical or cup-shaped body, relatively narrow at the end adjoining the cap 6 and coated on its exterior surface 8<1>, 9<1> with insulating material, the envelope being coated or covered with light-absorbing material 13, except for a region 10 permitting light to escape from the interior of the hollow body. In the form shown, the body is a cone having an slightly greater than 90‹. An insulated gauze 11 prevents the formation of deposits on the window 10. The lead 5 and support 5<1> are protected from undesired discharges by glass tubes. The insulating coating may be mica, enamel or zirconia. In a modification, the electrodes are separated by an axial plane instead of a plane perpendicular to the axis, as shown. The portion 10 of the envelope may be flat or re-entrant. The opaque cover 13 need not be completely opaque and may be mechanically separate from the envelope. Specification 315,369, [Class 39 (i)], is referred to.
