Abstract

487,019. Coating glass surfaces. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 11, 1937, No. 27587. Convention date, Oct. 20, 1936. [Class 56] [Also in Group XX] A discharge device such as that described in Specification 485,329, [Group XX], is provided on the inner surface of its envelope with a layer of a fused glaze consisting of boron phosphate, and finely divided luminescent material, such as cadmium or zinc silicate, adherent thereto. The layer is formed by applying a mixture of boric acid and phosphoric acid in a volatile solvent, drying spontaneously or in a stream of air until the coating is tacky, dusting on the luminescent powder, and heating at 450‹ C. to form the glaze. The volatile solvent may be a mixture of methyl alcohol and acetone, or, if rapid drying is desired, methyl alcohol only. Specification 405,964, [Group XX], also is referred to.
