Abstract
613,762. Luminescent screens. RAULAND CORPORATION, and SZEGHO, C. S. July 1, 1946, No. 19672. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] A double layer of luminescent material is applied to the screen of a cathode-ray tube by first applying by pouring or spraying a very thin coating of a binder such as phosphoric acid, drying or evaporating the solvent, dusting or spraying it with a fluorescent powder, then introducing into the tube a settling solution, e.g. of waterglass, containing the same or another fluorescent powder, preferably of finer grain, so as to cover only the screened portion and allowing the second layer to form by settling. Baking of the screen may be carried out at any stage, but preferably after dusting or spraying on the first luminescent material. The layers may have the same or different characteristics, i.e., after-glow, colour, &c.
