Abstract
740,331. Glass-metal seals. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 22, 1954 [April 25, 1953], No. 11690/54. Class 36. In sealing a glass member to an enamelled iron surface, the latter is previously coated in the sealing zone with a layer of glass powder having substantially the same composition as the glass member. A hard glass window having a sealing temperature of more than 1000‹ C. may be sealed to the enamelled iron cone of a cathode-ray tube in this manner. The glass powder may be applied as a suspension which is dried and cooled prior to the sealing operation, when it forms a protective layer over the enamel.
