583,208. Metal-to-glass seals. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., MANNERS, M., and PARTRIDGE, J. H. July 16, 1945, No. 18137. [Class 36] A metal surface is prepared for sealing to glass, for use in electric lamps and similar devices, other than thermionic valves, by applying a thin coating of boro-silicate glass (preferably alkali-free) by an enamelling process, the enamel being fired in a non-oxidizing, or reducing, atmosphere. The enamel slip may be applied by dipping, painting, or spraying. The coating is stated to be particularly advantageous for seals used under tropical conditions, and the following are given as suitable compositions :-
