Abstract

The ware is coated with a mixture of one or more metal oxides and an enamel-forming flux, to which a reducing agent has preferably been added, and burnt in a reducing atmosphere. The mixture may contain more than 50 per cent of metal oxide. A metal powder may be added to the mixture. An addition of one per cent of arsenic is said to improve the result. In an example the ware is coated with a mixture of 72 parts of cuprous oxide, 3 parts of graphite, and 25 parts of boron-sodium-lead frit, which is ground to a paste. The ware is then fired at 700 DEG C. in a casing of graphite.
