Abstract

502,273. Coating with metals. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Patent. Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gl³hlampen) Dec. 15, 1937, No. 34745. [Class 82 (ii)] A metallic layer is formed on a vitreous or ceramic body by sintering thereon powdered metal, such as tungsten or molybdenum, mixed with 0À 1 to 4 per cent of finely divided or dissolved acidic oxide which is not reduced during sintering. The powdered metal and oxide may be made into a paste and coated on the vitreous or ceramic surface. Suitable oxides are boric oxide, phosphoric oxide, zirconia and silica, boric oxide being preferably used when the body to be coated is of soft glass, and silica when the body is of vitreous quartz. When the body is of ceramic material the oxide should not be one capable of glazing the ceramic surface.
