Abstract

1447579 Resistor composition TRW Inc 13 Nov 1974 [24 July 1974] 49073/74 Heading C1M A vitreous enamel resistor composition comprises a mixture of a glass frit and finely divided particles of an alloy comprising Ni and Cr. The alloy, which may constitute 28-80% by weight of the composition, may comprise, by weight, 75% Ni, 20% Cr, 2À5% Cu and 2À5% Al, or 80% Ni and 20% Cr. The composition may also comprise up to 3% by weight of particles of Ti and/or titanium nitride. The particles of alloy, titanium and titanium nitride may be of size less than 325 mesh (U.S. Standard), i.e. below approx. 45 Á. The composition may be mixed with, e.g., butyl carbitol acetate and applied (e.g. by dipping) to a resistor substrate, which may be of ceramic, glass, alumina, porcelain, barium titanate, or a refractory. The coated substrate may then be fired at 800-1100‹ C., preferably in an inert atmosphere of Ar, He or N 2 . The glass frit may be a borosilicate glass. Examples given consist of, in weight per cent: (i) BaO 52, B 2 O 3 20, SiO 2 20, Al 2 O 3 4, and TiO 2 4; and (ii) MgO 10, CaF 2 4, CaO 2, B 2 O 3 28, Al 2 O 3 14, and SiO 2 42.
