Abstract
904,936. Enamels and enamelling. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. Feb. 27, 1961 [March 2, 1960], No. 7130/61. Addition to 874,157. Class 56. [Also in Group XXXVI] A vitreous enamel composition to be applied to and fired on a ceramic or glass dielectric to form resistors, consists of 8 to 90% by weight of finely-divided PdO or RhO and 10 to 92% of finely-divided vitreous enamel flux. In modifications, the total 8 to 90% may include a proportion of finely-divided Ag, Au or Pt with a minimum of 4% PdO or RhO and this may be further modified or the PdO or RhO alone may be modified by an additive oxide of Zr, Al, Sr, Ca, Sn, Mg, Zn or a rare earth, the additive oxide being 0.1 to 35% of the total content of PdO or RhO and the additive oxide. The additive oxide is preferably present as an adherent coating to the particles of PdO or RhO and may be prepared in a number of different ways given in the Specification. The enamel frit may be borosilicate or a Pb, Cd, Ba, Ca, or other borosilicate frit. A number of different binders for the powdered mixture of frit and particles are disclosed and the paste may be stencilled, sprayed or brushed on to the glass, porcelain, barium titanate or other refractory base material. Numbers of examples are given.
