[Class 56] [Also in Group XL(a)] A vitreous article (e.g. the tubular envelope of a high-voltage electronic discharge device) is provided with a coating of predetermined electrical resistivity comprising a glass containing SiO<SP>2</SP>, PbO and one or more metals of the 5th periodic subgroup which has been finely powdered and suspended in a medium. The coated article is heated in hydrogen or other reducing gas at about 300‹-630‹C. Particular examples containing Sb<SP>2</SP>O<SP>3</SP> or Bi<SP>2</SP>O<SP>3</SP> are given.
