Abstract

596,792. Vitreous compositions. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES. Ltd. Nov. 29, 1944, No. 23793. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1943. [Class 56] A vitreous composition suitable particularly for use as dielectric material for condensers such as those described and claimed in Specification 596,791, [Group IV], and for the manufacture of electrical insulators, comprises 40-55 per cent PbO, 20-30 per cent SiO2, 1-4 per cent F, 1-10 per cent MgO and 1-10 per cent of one or more of the oxides of lithium, sodium and potassium. The K,O may be present up to 10 per cent, but the M2O should not exceed 5 per cent nor the Li2O 3 per cent. 1-15 per cent of SrO is preferably present as well, but 1-10 per cent of ZnO may be used in lieu of or in addition to the SrO. 1-4 per cent of Sb2O3 may also be added. The composition contains no B2O3.
