Glasses suitable for making relatively large envelopes for electric discharge devices comprise, in percentage parts by weight, SiO 2 64-69; Na 2 O 6-10; K 2 O 5-9; [Na 2 O+ K 2 O=14.5-16.5] ; BaO 5-9; CaO 0-1.5; SrO 0-3; Al 2 O 3 0.5-5; B 2 O 3 1-5; Cl 2 0-0.5 ; P 2 O 5 0-1 ; a fining agent, e.g. Sb 2 O 3 0-0.3; and optionally PbO 4-7 with 0.3-0.6 of fluorine, but if no PbO is present 0.9-1.5 of fluorine is used.
