Abstract

640,872. Insulators. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 21, 1948, No. 24689. Convention date, Sept. 30, 1947. [Class 36] [Also in Group XXIII] Porcelains of electrical insulating bushings are glazed with a composition comprising 30-45 per cent by weight of a frit formed by mixing and firing 70-84 per cent by weight SiO 2 , 6.5-14.5 per cent by weight MnCO 3 , 6-12 per cent by weight Fe 2 O 3 and 2-7 per cent by weight B 2 O 3 .3H 2 O (see Group XXIII). The glaze resists the deposition of carbon particles on the porcelains, and is particularly used in oil-filled electrical apparatus in which bushing porcelains are immersed in oil, e.g. in oil-filled circuit-breakers.
