733,142. Enamels. WURTTEMBERGISCHE METALLWARENFABRIK. Aug. 25, 1950 [Sept. 15, 1949; March 29, 1950], No. 21127/50. Drawings to Specification. Class 56. A vitreous enamel, for use as an electrical insulator at elevated temperatures, consisting of 20-40 per cent SiO 2 , 40-65 per cent PbO and/or BaO, and up to 25 per cent of one or more of B 2 O 3 , CaO, Al 2 O 3 and TiO 2 , with or without auxiliary substances colouring oxides, clouding agents or the like, the maximum proportions of B 2 O 3 , CaO, Al 2 O 8 and TiO 2 being 5, 6, 6 and 15 per cent respectively, and any alkali oxides occurring only as impurities. The expansion coefficient of the enamel is readily varied by varying the proportion of titanium oxide present. The weight percentage compositions of two examples are follows : (1) PbO 47.5, CaO 4.2, Al 2 O 3 6.0, SiO 2 36.6, B 2 O 3 4.6, Cr 2 O 3 , or other colouring oxides 1.1; (2) PbO 46.30, BaO 13.25, CaO 2.90, Al 2 O 3 0.53, SiO 2 25.00, B 2 O 3 4.85, TiO 2 6.66, Cr 2 O 3 , or other colouring oxides, 0.51. A graphic representation showing the electric conductivity in terms of the reciprocal of ohms per centimetre over a temperature range from about 20-500‹ C. are given for both known enamels and the enamels according to the invention.
