Abstract
670,241. Glass compositions. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 28, 1948 [May 29, 1947], No. 14498/48. Drawings to Specification. Class 56. [Also in Group XL (a)] A glass consists of specified proportions of silica (SiO 2 ) and boric oxide (B,O,), together with the oxides of sodium (Na 2 O), aluminium (Al 2 O 3 ), iron (Fe 2 0 3 ), cerium (CeO), and also preferably antimony (Sb 2 O 3 ). It is stated that this glass possesses a combination of physical properties rendering it especially suitable for X-ray tube envelopes, said properties being dielectric strength and dielectric constant, resistivity, X-ray transmissivity, annealing and softening temperatures, strain point and power factor, all of specified values. In addition, the glass has a low discoloration rate, and a coefficient of expansion such that it readily seals to nickel-steel or nickel-iron-cobalt-manganese alloys of specified composition.
