Abstract
PURPOSE:To considerably improve the performance and the quality of a cathode ray tube, by forming a fluorescent face on a transparent substrate then arranging it as the fluorescent face target in the proximity of the inner face of the face section of a bulb. CONSTITUTION:A fluorescent material layer 10 is formed on the surface of a planar transparent substrate 22 made of glass through sedimentation, then a filming film 18 or an organic intermediate film for forming the metal-back film in the following process is formed on said surface through spray filming. Thereafter, Al film is formed on said film 18 through vacuum deposition to produce a metal-back layer 11. Then the glass board formed with the fluorescent material layer 10 and the metal- back layer 11 is heated above the softening temperature of glass on a cup-shaped metal die 24 to produce a fluorescent face target 25 of desired shape. Said target 25 is inserted through the opening 8a of a bulb 8 and secured in the proximity of the inner face of the face section 9.
