Abstract

960,166. Sashless casement windows; hinges; stays. F. FAULKNER GREENE & CO. Ltd. Aug. 9, 1962 [Aug. 10, 1961], No. 28892/61. Headings E1J and E2F. A sashless leaf 10 of a casement window is hinged to the main frame by a cylindrical bead 13 preferably extruded integral with a channel 12 for receiving the edge portion of the leaf and the bead and channel extending the whole length of the leaf and the bead being received in a cylindrical cavity 19 in a channel member, preferably integral with the frame 3, as an extruded piece. A double sashless leaf window is shown, all the four leaves 10 being pivotable, and a clear plastic weather strip 22 sealingly engages over the free vertical edge of one of the meeting leaves to provide a continuously extending sealing 24 for the free edge of other of the meeting leaves when the window is closed. The top and bottom crossmembers of the main frame have dovetail horizontal grooves which hold keyed strips of Neoprene to engage the upper and lower edge portions of the leaves 10 in the closed position. The leaves are releasably secured in the closed or any one of a plurality of open angular positions by an arcuate bracket 25 secured to the lower cross-member of the frame and a stud 28 at one end of a lever 29 pivoted at 30 to the leaf 10 and insertable into the spaced holes 27 in the bracket. A fixed bracket 31 on the leaf 10 engages, as a limiting stop the upturned end 32 of the bracket 25.
