Abstract

959,248. Cleaning printing surfaces. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. Aug. 14, 1962 [Aug. 24, 1961], No. 31130/62. Heading B6C. " Halberds " i.e. particles of dirt, are removed from the planographic plate of a rotary-offset machine by means of a spatula 10 made of polymethacrylic acid ester and having a relatively small width in comparison with the width of the plate. The spatula is mounted on a carrier 12 which is rotatable and longitudinally slidable on a shaft 11 mounted parallel to the axis of the plate cylinder 1 by means of a handle 15, rotation of the carrier being limited by rails 13, 14. The spatula can be manipulated so as to remove halberds from the plate while the machine is running, location of a halberd on the plate being facilitated by the provision of a scale 17 on the rail 14. A knife 16 is mounted on one end of the plate cylinder and serves to clean the spatula when the latter is moved into its path. Damping rollers 3, 5 and inking rollers 6-9 are associated with the plate cylinder.
