In a rotary offset printing machine the impression cylinder 3 is cleaned after each impression by an absorbent roller or pad 10 disposed in a bath of ink solvent 13; the pad surface either projects above the surface of the solvent, or as shown is level therewith as maintained by an overflow 14. The arrangement is stated to remove letter-press ink readily, thus enabling an offset machine having a relief printing cylinder as described in Specification 765,325 to be used for letter-press printing.
