502,316. Printing-machines. LARSEN, C. E. June 28, 1938, No. 19176. Convention date, Oct. 6, 1937. [Class 100 (ii)] Damping apparatus for lithographic machines. In a planographic printing machine, the moistening liquid, e.g. water containing glycerol or alcohol, is applied to the printing surface through the medium of the inking mechanism. For this purpose, one of the rollers of the inking mechanism may be partly submerged in a bath of the liquid, or the liquid may be sprayed or poured over one of the members of the mechanism or over the ink in the fountain. Or a separate roller, to which the liquid is applied by immersion, pouring or spraying, may contact continuously or periodically with one of the members of the inking mechanism, or the ordinary damping mechanism may be used to apply moisture to one of the inking rollers.
