Abstract

779,066. Rotary printing-machines MITCHELL, L. H. Feb. 2, 1956 [Nov. 4, 1954], No. 31937/54. Class 100(2) Set-off preventing. A device for preventing set-off from the impression cylinder of a rotary printing press, particularly when used for perfecting, comprises a rotary helical brush or brushes 8, 9 in contact with the blanket of the impression cylinder 3 and adapted to be rotated in the same rotary direction as, or in the opposite rotary direction to and at a different peripheral speed from that of, the impression cylinder. As shown two blankets 6, 7 are provided, and the helical brushes 8. 9 are of opposite hand to wipe the ink or other deposits outwards from the impression cylinder centre; the brush sleeves 10, 11 are of square or other non-circular bore to slide on to a driving shaft 12 of similar cross-section carried by a disconnectible bearing 13 and by a flexible coupling 14 mounted directly on an electric or other motor 15 or on a shaft geared to the press drive. According to the Provisional Specification the brushed off ink &c. disperses in the atmosphere or is collected by a shield; the brush may be of bristles, hair or nylon.
