Abstract

1,012,290. Printing machines; feeding sheets. MASCHINENFABRIK JOHANNISBERG G.m.b.H. July 14, 1964 [July 15, 1963], No. 28928/64. Headings B6B and B6C. Apparatus for smoothing and removing dust from sheets, particularly prior to printing, comprises a suction box 1 pivoted at 6 so as to lie adjacent to the impression cylinder 2 in advance of the printing position, the box carrying brushes 9, 12 along its upper and lower edges for smoothing the sheets and assisting in the dust removal, and being oscillated about the pivot 6 so that it is moved away from the cylinder after the tail end of one sheet has passed the bottom brush 12 and moved towards the cylinder when the leading edge of the next sheet has passed the brush 12. Suction is applied through one of the pivots 6 to the box 1 which has apertures 11 distributed so that suction is applied uniformly to the sheets, and also carries small brushes 24 which prevent the sheet being sucked into contact with the box 1. The box 1 can be lifted out of its pivot bearings by handles 8 and is supported at its lower end by rollers 21 carried by a linkage 14 operated from a cam 13 on the cylinder shaft so as to oscillate the box 1 as required. A dust box 22 is provided beneath the brush 12.
