Abstract

644,244. Turf-piercing machines. HARGREAVES & CO., Ltd., W., and HARGREAVES, W. July 23, 1948, No. 19679. [Class 6(i)] Spiked turf-piercing rollers are enclosed; for transport and like purposes, in a cylindical cover, one or more segments of which may be removed for turf-piercing use. The complementary removable part h to the half-cylinder c fixed to the frame is provided with legs h<SP>1</SP> which engage in staples in the frame. During use they may be replaced by legs i<SP>2</SP> carrying small rollers i whereby the depth of penetration of the spikes may be limited. Attached to the handle is a push-rod e engageable in an opening in the half-cylinder C; handle d may then be used to invert the part c and permit replacement of the wheels i, i, by the other half-cylinder. Segmental tanks for sand &c. may be fixed inside the halfcylinders. The spiked rollers may be made of side-discs spaced peripherally by bolts on which are threaded renewable spikes and spacing sleeves.
