Abstract

A nickel base alloy for gas turbine parts consists of: -<TABS:0956405/C3/1> Ni as balance except for impurities such as Si, Mn, Fe, maximum 1% each, 1.5% total, with Ca and Mg maximum 0.005%. To reduce impurities, the alloy may be melted and held at 1400-1600 DEG C. for at least 5 minutes under vacuum. The alloy is readily cold-formed and welded in the solution-heated, e.g. effected at 1050-1200 DEG C. for 2 minutes-8 hours, and quenched condition, prior to ageing at 700-950 DEG C. for 2-16 hours. Comparative Ni base alloys are disclosed containing 14-20% Cr, 10-20% Co, 0-10% Mo, 0.01-0.2% C, 3.54-5.67% Ti+Al, up to 0.008% B and up to 0.1% Zr. The first Provisional Specification describes an alloy wider in scope than that of the invention in that Mo is 5-9% and Ti+Al is 3.5-5.5%.
