Abstract

1,196,714. Nickel base alloys. SPECIAL METALS CORP. Oct. 10, 1968 [Oct. 16, 1967], No. 48169/68. Heading C7A. An alloy with good hot corrosion resistance, strength, creep resistance and phase stability comprises:- Al 2 - 3% } Ti + Al = 6À5 - 9% Ti 4À5 - 7% } Ti/ Al = 1À75 - 3À5% B 0À005 - 0À025% C 0À05 - 0À15% Cr 14À5 - 18À5% Co 13 - 19% Mo 2 - 3À5% W 0À5 - 2À5% Mn up to 0À75% Y/Rare earths up to 0À2% each, the balance, apart from incidental impurities, being Ni. The alloys may be heat treated according to the following schedule: - 4 hours at 2150‹ F, 4 hours at 1975‹ F, 24 hours at 1550‹ F, 16 hours at 1400‹ F and between each stage and finally air cool to room temperature. The alloys may be used in gas turbine engines and maybe used in the cast or wrought form. It is preferred that the number of electron vacancies in the banding orbitals of the elements of the alloy (Nv), calculated as 4À66 (% Cr + % Mo + %W) + 1À71 (%Co) + 0À61 (%Ni), wherein the percentages are atomic %, is no more than 2À38.
