Abstract
1302293 Nickel alloys HENRY WIGGIN & CO Ltd 12 Jan 1971 [26 Jan 1970] 3643/70 Heading C7A An alloy for use under stress at elevated temperatures (e.g. up to 700C., and for a wrought turbine engine rotor disc) contains by weight 0À02-0À1% C, 10-15% Cr, 5-7% Mo, 3À3-4À5% Ti, 0À2-1À1% Al, 45-55% Ni, 0À003- 0À02% B, and Fe together with impurities (e.g. Si, Mn, Cu, Co, Pb, S, Nb, Ta) and possibly <0À1% Zr. To develop the best combination of proof stress and tensile ductility at elevated temperatures the alloys should be solution-heated and then aged in one or more stages. A suitable process is: heating at 1040-1100C. for 1-8 hrs; water quenching; ageing at 700-760C. for at least 8 hrs., or ageing at 740-780C. for more than 1 hr. followed by air cooling and then ageing at 675-720C. for at least 8 hrs.; finally, air cooling. The properties of an alloy made as above are compared with those of a relatively low-cost alloy already in use, and of a preferred alloy of Specification 1132724.
