Abstract
An iron-aluminium-manganese-nickel alloy, for aircraft or missile parts, connecting rods, gears, disc brakes, valve seat inserts or electric railway insulator pins, has the following composition: .Al.6 to 20% .Mn.9 to 18% .Ni.5 to 15% .C.0.15 to 2% .Nb.0 to 4% .Si.0 to 3% .N.0 to 1% with or without Be, Co, Mo, W, V, Cu, Ta, Ti, Zr and/or Cr totalling up to 10%, .B.0 to 2% .Ce.0 to 2% with Fe and impurities as balance The alloy may be solution heat-treated at 800-1250 DEG C. and quenched prior to precipitation hardening at 400-700 DEG C. with or without hot working.
