Abstract
1298942 Alloys INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd 5 March 1970 [7 March 1969] 12260/69 Headings C7A, C7D An alloy has a composition in the following range in per cent by weight. Cr 23À5 - 26À0 C 0À01 - 0À2 Co 14À0 - 24À0 Mo 0À5 - 2À1 Ti and Al 4À25 - 5À6 in total, the ratio of Ti:Al being 1:1 to 4:1 Nb 0 - 2À0 B 0À001 - 0À05 Zr 0 - 0À15 Hf 0 - 0À1 Mg 0 - 0À04 Rare earths 0 - 0À3 Yt 0 - 2 Ni and impurities the balance with the provisos that 10B+Zr is at least 0À02 and the concentrations of Nb, Ti and Al are such that the composition falls within the area ABCDA of the drawing. As impurities Si should be below 1% and Mn and Fe may be present up to 1% and 2% respectively. The alloy may be used as a matrix for alloys dispersion hardened by the presence of finely divided refractory particles such as thoria, yttria, lanthana, ceria or rare earth metal oxides which may be present in amount of at least 0À2% by volume, e.g. À05-5%. The alloys of the invention may be solution treated, e.g. at 1050-1250C for 1-8 hours and aged at 600-950C for 1-24 hours, with or without intermediateageingat 800-1050C for 1-16 hours. Cooling may be by air cooling or transfer to a furnace at a lower temperature. The Mg content may be given by vacuum melting the remainder of the alloy and adding an Ni-15% Mg alloy, and then vacuum casting.
