Abstract

1298943 Alloys INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd 5 March 1970 [7 March 1969] 12261/69 Headings C7A, C7D An alloy has a composition in the following range in per cent by weight. Cr 19À5 - 23À0 C 0À01 - 0À2 Co 10À0 - 24À0 Mo 0 - 4À5 Ti and Al 3À7 - 7À0, the ratio Ti:Al being 1:1-4:1 Nb 0À5 - 3À0 B 0À001 - 0À05 Zr 0 - 0À15 Hf 0 - 0À1 Mg 0 - 0À04 Rare earths 0 - 0À3 Yt 0 - 2À0 Ni and impurities the balance, with the provisos that Zr+10B is at least 0À2 and the contents of Ti, Al, Nb and Mo being so correlated that for an alloy containing n% of Mo the percentages of the other three elements fall within the area A n B n C n D n EA n the area being constructed as described in the specification. As impurities Si should not exceed 1% and Mn and Fe may be present up to 1% and 2% respectively. The alloy may be used as a matrix for alloys dispersion-hardened by the presence of finely divided refractory particles such as thoria, yttria, lanthana, ceria or rare earth oxide mixtures in amount at least 0À2%, e.g. 0À5-5%, by volume. The alloys may be solution treated, e.g. at 1050‹C-1250‹C for 1-8 hours, and then aged, e.g. at 600-950‹C for 1-24 hours, with or without an intermediate ageing at 800-1050‹C for 1-16 hours. Cooling may be by air-cooling or transfer to a furnace at a lower temperature. The Mg content may be introduced by vacuummelting the remainder of the alloy and adding an Ni-15% Mg alloy and then vacuum casting.
