Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide an Al alloy filler metal having a specified composition contg. Mg, Ni, Al, etc., improving the low temperature brittleness of a weld zone which is the largest defect of an Al structure, making the structure lightweight, and enhancing the strength of the structure. CONSTITUTION:This Al alloy filler metal with high toughness at low temp. consists of, by wt., over 6-10% Mg, 0.006-3% Ni and the balance Al or further contains one or more among 0.05-1.5% Mn, 0.01-0.5% Cr, 0.005-0.2% Ti, 0.001-0.01% B and 0.01-0.5% Zr as required. This alloy is obtd. by adding Ni to an Al-Mg alloy to remarkably improve the toughness at low temp., and the low temp. brittleness of a weld zone which is the largest defect of an Al structure is improved.
