Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an Al alloy for a bearing with high mechanical strngth at ordinary temp. and high temp. and superior wear resistance by adding Zn, Si and Cu as essential components to Al and further adding one or more among Mn, Cr and Zr.
CONSTITUTION: This alloy consists of, by wt., 3W10% Zn, 2W6% Si, 0.5W1.0% Cu, one or more among 0.05W0.6% Mn, 0.05W0.3% Cr and 0.05W0.25% Zr, and the balance essentially Al. The lower limit or more of Zn is required to obtain necessary strength and wear resistance, yet more than the upper limit of Zn tends to cause stress corrosion. The lower limit or more of Si is required to enhance the wear resistance and strength, yet more than the upper limit of Si provides excess brittleness and hardness and deteriorates the workability. The lower limit or more of Cu is required to enhance the strength and wear resistance, yet more than the upper limit of Cu deteriorates the corrosion resistance remarkably. Each of Mn, Cr and Zr has an effect of preventing the recrystallization of the alloy, yet less than the lower limit of it does not produce the effect sufficiently, and more than the upper limit of it tends to form coarse proeutectic during ingot making and causes embrittlement.
