Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a medium-strength Al alloy with superior forming workability, strength and corrosion resistance by increasing the Si content of JIS6063 alloy and adding a small amount of a specified transition element to the alloy.
CONSTITUTION: An Al-Mg-Si type alloy is prepared by adding Mg 0.45W0.65%, Si 0.60W1.0%, Cu 0.10W0.30%, Mn 0.10W0.30%, Zr 0.10W0.30% and Fe < 0.35%. JIS6063 alloy which is an Al alloy contg. Mg 0.45W0.9% and Si 0.20W 0.60% is used as a base material, and by making the amount of Mg2Si about equal and the amount of excess Si larger without changing the amount of Mg the mechanical properties of the alloy are enhanced remarkably without deteriorating the forming workability. A lowering in impact value and bendability due to the excess Si amount is prevented by adding a small amount of Cu, Mn or other transition metal. Thus, a medium-strength Al alloy is obtd. This alloy gives superior characteristics such as strength, surface treatability and corrosion resistance to worked products.
