Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the pressure resistance of an Al alloy for can by adding Cu, Mg and other specified element to the alloy and lonnealing the alloy after cold working.
CONSTITUTION: To Al are added, by wt., 0.30W0.70% Cu, 1.0W1.3% Mn, 1.2W 1.6% Mg. 0.3W0.6% Fe and 0.15W0.3% Si or further added one or more among <0.15% V, <0.15% Cr, <0.25% Zn, <0.15% Ti and <0.05% B. An ingot of this Al alloy is homogenized, hot rolled, and finally cold worked by 45W85% to obtain a plate having the final thickness. The plate is then lonnealed at 100W180°C. A can made of this Al alloy plate has strength enough to well withstand the internal pressure due to gaseous CO2.
