Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an Al alloy for extrusion with enhanced mechanical properties even at a low cooling rate and superior hardenability by adding a specified percentage of Mg, Si, Cu and Mn to Al.
CONSTITUTION: An Al alloy is prepared contg., by weight, 0.4W1.2% Mg, Mg/ 1.73+0.05WMg/1.73+0.4% Si (Mg is the content percent of Mg), 0.05W0.4% Cu and 0.1W1.0% Mn. To the alloy may be added ≤0.30% Fe, ≤0.10% Cr, ≤0.20% Zr and ≤0.20% Ti. This alloy is excellent in strength and can be provided with sufficient strength without carrying out equenching by water cooling or other method after extrusion.
