Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the critical COD characteristics of the weld zone of the resulting Al killed steel for low temp. use by providing a specified composition contg. C, Si, Mn, sol. Al and Ti as well as P, S and N in amounts reduced to the utmost.
CONSTITUTION: This Al killed steel for low temp. use has a composition consisting of 0.03W0.12% C, 0.01W0.5% Si, 0.7W1.7% Mn, ≤0.025% P, ≤0.010% S, ≤0.0040% T.N, 0.04W0.12% sol. Al, ≤0.01% Ti and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. The composition may further contain one or more among ≤ 0.5% Cu, ≤1.5% Ni, ≤1.0% Cr and ≤0.5% Mo. This Al killed steel has a high critical COD value at the bond zone at low temp. and a high absorbed energy value at the bond zone at low temp., so it shows superior toughness at the bond zone.
