Abstract

[Also in Division G3] In a clock having a balance including a coil which is caused to oscillate in the field of, but which does not surround, a permanent magnet, by current intermittently supplied to the coil, this magnet is of generally annular form having a small gap between pole ends which face each other, the magnet being adjustable angularly to alter the position of the gap relative to the coil, or adjustable bodily toward or away from the coil. The balance wheel comprising three radially triangular coils 1, 2, 3, Figs. 1-3, is rotatable on pivot 4 between two spaced annular permanent magnets 5, 6 each having a small gap 7. The magnets are adjustable angularly relative to each other by means not shown. In the embodiment of Fig. 4, the coil 10 on pivot 12 oscillates in a plane close to that of a single annular magnet 14 having a gap 15. This magnet is carried on a plate 18 adjustable angularly by slotted holes engaging bolts 26, and adjustable angularly by slotted holes engaging bolts 26, and adjustable on these bolts bodily toward or away from the coil 10. A spring 16 of the balance is adjustable by a known slide and lever arrangement indicated at 24.
