Abstract
946,638. Ignition generators. MOTOROLA Inc. March 27, 1962 [April 6, 1961], No. 11728/62. Heading H2A. [Also in Division F1] Pulsing units for use in ignition systems (see also Division Fl) are described. The pulsing unit of Fig. 1 includes a permanent magnet 14 having polepieces 15 connected thereto about which are positioned coils 16. A toothed magnetic disc or wheel 18 is mounted for rotation so that the teeth 19 thereof pass by and in close proximity to the ends of the polepieces 15. The plate 17 may be advanced or retarded with respect to the disc 18. The coils may be wound directly on a permanent magnet rather than on polepieces. Electromagnets may be used instead of permanent magnets. The magnet in the magnetic structure for the coils may be dispensed with. An alternative form of pulsing unit is illustrated in Fig. 4. A permanent magnet 45 is supported by polepieces 46, 47 when a tooth 54 is positioned between the polepieces as shown, the flux from the magnet 45 through the coil 50 will be a maximum. However, when the member 52 rotates and the tooth portion 54 is clear of the polepieces the flux through the coil 50 will be a minimum.
