Abstract

[Also in Division H2] A magnetic release device for a protective switch has two parallel spaced U-shaped yokes 1, 2 with the gap 3 between them bridged at their webs by a permanent magnet 4 and at diagonally opposite arm ends S<SP>1</SP>, N<SP>11</SP> by an armature 5 normally retained against the bias of a spring 6. Each coil 7, 8 surrounds two limbs, one of each yoke and the coil may be energized to oppose the permanent magnet flux to release the armature. The coils may be in series or separately energized. The permanent magnet may be disc shaped (Fig. 3, not shown) and rotatable to set the release current.
