The four poles of a system comprising a pair of permanent or electro-magnets 5, 6 are shrouded by soft ferrous bells 8, those on like poles being joined by magnetic bars 9. The flux from each pole is increased or decreased by means of current passed through coils 11 on the bells. Various shapes of bells are shown. Specification 765,447 is referred to.
