Abstract
950,934. Steam boiler fire-boxes; firing doors. B. W. DAWKINS. Oct. 3, 1960 [July 20, 1959], No. 24793/59. Headings F4A and F4B. The rear wall of a fire box for use in a locomotive type boiler comprises a back plate 1 and a back head 2 and has a firing opening 3 which extends for substantially the full width of the fire box interior adjacent the fire box rear wall and may extend for the full height of the wall thereby facilitating firing and more even distribution of fuel over the floor of the fire box. One or more doors or sets of doors close the opening. Thus as shown in Fig. 3 the opening is closed by three sliding doors 10 running on rollers 11. The lower edge 5 of the opening may be defined by the fire box assembly itself or by a floor or grate (not shown), in the latter case the foundation ring 6 being deviated to form at arch 6<SP>1</SP> over the opening.
